Why come to Psychotherapy or Counselling?

In most people's lives there comes a time when they need support to work out long-term issues. Or perhaps they have met with stresses in their relationships or in work.  Often we struggle on,  relying on family or friends. Sometimes we turn to strategies that worked for us before, but no longer seem to help us with our pain.    We may feel depressed, anxious, isolated and unable to see a way out for ourselves.   Perhaps we begin to experience the unnerving feeling of a panic attack.  Or we may find ourselves overusing alcohol, struggling with food, spending or other addictions
Psychotherapy, or counselling, aims to provide the assistance an individual needs to process what is current in their lives or has occurred in their past,   thereby enabling them to live a more fulfilling and flexible life.   Having someone really listen to you in confidence and without judgement can help you in your struggle and provide support in dealing with depression, anxiety or panic attacks.   Together with a psychotherapist, you can work towards living a life in which you feel more comfortable and at peace or enable yourself to make the decisions and steps to take your life in a more positive direction.

My Experience

How I Work

I am a  Humanistic and Integrative pyschotherapist and counsellor.  Humanistic means that I believe that the clients I work with can change and grow in a direction of their choosing.   Integrative means that I use a number of theoretical models and techniques to work with clients.  Mainly, however, I am a relational psychotherapist and I believe that the important element of the work is that we can develop a relationship of trust that will enable us to work together to help you overcome your difficulties and release whatever is blocking you from a fulfilling life.
I am a fully qualified and accredited psychotherapist/counsellor and a member of both the Irish Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (IACP) and the Irish Association of Humanist and Integrative Psychotherapists (IAHIP).  Before becoming a psychotherapist I  worked in both education and in human resources, training, personal and management development.   I have always been interested in helping people grow into the people they can be.

My Training

Where I Work

My core training was a Graduate Diploma in Integrative Psychotherapy and Counselling from the Irish Institute of Counselling and Psychotherapy Studies and Dublin City University.  Following this, I completed a Diploma in  Gestalt Therapy.  Previously, I also completed an MSc in Organisational Behaviour and a Teaching qualification.  Currently, I am training in a Doctorate in Counselling Psychology.

These are negotiable.
